Synopsis:
When Devi, Lizzie, and Jayne get snowed in and stranded at the grand Bramble Estate, home of the wealthy Vanforte family, they find themselves accidentally right in the middle of a murder plot. The matriarch, Emily Vanforte, has been poisoned at her own dinner party, and whoever did it is still on the loose.
The killer could only be one of four people: Charles, Emily’s notorious politician husband; Lottie their seemingly perfect teenage daughter; Douglas, Lottie’s good-for-nothing boyfriend; and Tate, Charle’s nephew who is more than meets the eye.
Cut off from help, confined in an isolated house with a killer, and surrounded by suspects, the girls decide to solve the mystery before one of them becomes the next victim. But no one is safe with knives hidden under the floorboards, vanishing guns, and secret passages in the walls. And in a house full of liars, how will they ever discover the truth in time? Agatha Christie would be proud of this YA thriller that pays homage to the locked room mystery trope. Mystery fans, young and old, will get a kick out of this mystery. Devi, Lizzie and Jayne get snowed in and stranded at a remote mansion, filled with a family of liars. Their dilemma worsens when they stumble upon a murder plot with a killer trapped in the house. Winter storm and a remote manor house? What could be more fun to read during these long winter months?
Reader of Catch Your Death will not only enjoy trying to solve this puzzle of a mystery, but will be drawn in by the relatable and diverse cast of main characters. The strong character development the girls go through from beginning to end was both engrossing and invigorating to read. I loved all three of the characters and although emotionally I connected with Lizzie, my favorite was Devi. It was always a hoot to read. She has the spunk we all want but can never have and she makes a great teen detective.
Guron provides puzzles and twists that keep readers guessing until the very last chapter. For this Year of Reading, this is a great title to help young people jump-start their love of reading in 2026. Teen readers will immensely enjoy this tantalizing mystery, especially if they enjoyed books such as A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder and One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus. But adult readers will enjoy this book as well. You can see the author’s love of mysteries and classic tropes in this book; however, it includes more relevant and essential topics that will be a highlight for any reader. A strong follow-up to her debut novel, This Book Kills, makes one of my best books of 2025one of your first reads of 2026.

Make sure to also read Guron’s debut mystery, This Book Kills!
