Synopsis:

Impulsive Marianne Dashwood and cautious Elinor are as different as two sisters could be, yet both are shattered by their father’s sudden Death. Elinor’s attachment to the reserved Edward Ferrars is torn asunder by family opposition and his own dark secret, while Marianne’s brilliant romance with the dashing John Willoughby comes to a tumultuous end in a devastating public betrayal. Can the two sisters overcome these trials to find true, lasting happiness?

Jane Austen’s beloved first novel, filled with romance, redemption and social critique, is brought to life for a modern audience in this gorgeous manga-style adaptation!

It is always interesting to see different Austen adaptations but to see it in Manga form was a whole different experience. Although the story was altered from the original (but not by that much), it was a beautifully done manga with artwork that did an amazing job capturing the romance and the emotions of these memorable characters. I believe Jane Austen would have been proud.

Manga Classics is a great series. As a teen librarian, it is hard to get teens to read, let alone to read the classics. This book series adapts the classics in a way that appeals to a younger generation or even to a person who has always to be hesitant to read the books. It never should be a substitute, people should read the real medium. However, Manga Classics is a good way to introduce reluctant readers to the world’s best literature.
