Friday Deabte

Welcome to Friday Debate, a feature on cup of tea with that book, please, where every Friday a question will be posted that tantalize the brain and expands our horizons. For this week’s question:

They always look so nice in your house. Books manage to make a room or a house more comfortable, more homey.

But are you guilty of buying books and never actually reading them? Then my fellow bookworms, you are engaging in Tsundoku, a Japanese term that is used to describe a person who owns a lot of unread books. You are probably saying to yourself, “This sounds a lot like a bibliophile”. And you’re right…it does. Or the more correct term “bibliomania“, the “passionate enthusiasm for collecting and possessing books”.

However, there is one difference bibliophiles have the intention to create a book collection, while tsundoku describes their first intention of reading the books but in the end creating a mass collection of unread books.

They are just so many descriptions about the readers out there that it is hard to keep track. So all of these various descriptions lead me to ask this week’s debate question:

This is a cool way to do a discussion with the pole. I’m interested to see how it turns out! Thanks for sharing.

love this article! thanks for sharing, I’m actually learning Japanese so I found this very interesting! Thankfully, I’m not a tsundoku as I have every intention of reading my entire collection of books! 🤗💛💛
