I have been blogging since March and I just realized that I never really mentioned which books are my favorite. I have said one particular book was my favorite but never a list. And when I say favorites, I mean favorite books that I will most likely read in the future. So that is my “freebie” for this week, top ten favorite books of all time (listed backwards):

10. Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin

This use to be higher on my list but another book (which will be mentioned) took its place. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve place in my top ten. This far beyond chick lit, even wouldn’t call it a love story. It was just a true and honest examination between a female friendship that you rarely see in women’s fiction.

9. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

This book was different from anything else I have ever read. I didn’t like any of the characters. I was rooting for both of the main characters to fail and yet I loved every last word of it.

8. The Gemma Doyle Series by Libba Bray

I know I’m cheating but this series was so good I couldn’t just pick one. It was so refreshing to see a female witch independent and making her own decisions.

7. TIED The Scarlett Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne & Animal Farm by George Orwell

I couldn’t choose. Both books deal with societal expectations and embracing human nature. True classics.

6. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

One of the few American lit books I really liked. It’s just so raw with emotion especially in the perspective of a young child.

5. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

A lot the themes in this book are relates to life today and I just know it will always be relatable to me

4. North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell

Like Pride and Prejudice, but goes in beautiful detail about the social issues and the constant change that each region has to deal with. I loved it so much I could not put it down. Hear that Dickens, this is how you write a book depicting the social issues.

3. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

This is what replaced Something Borrowed. After reading this and all the crying ceased, I wanted to get up and do something with my life. I just loved this book so much. There hasn’t been a contemporary book that has touched me this emotionally in my life.

2. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

Beautifully descriptive writing, well-rounded female character ahead of her time. I think if we look within ourselves there is a Jane Eyre within us all.

And number one:

Anything by Jane Austen: So sue me. I couldn’t choose! I mean, Pride and Prejudice is and always will be mt all-time favorite book but to place her other great works? If I did that then none of the other books I love will get recognized so it is just easier to jumble all of books into one place. Jane Austen is one of the reasons that I love reading so much. It is only fair that her clever and witty writing should take the number one spot.
