Torn apart by infighting and resignations, the Swedish Academy, the committee who awards the laureate for the Nobel Prize in Literature, announced that no award will be given this year due to the allegations of sexual misconduct, financial malpractice and leaks. The Academy made the announcement early this morning.
This was a statement made by Anders Olsson, interim Permanent Secretary, on the Swedish Academy’s website:
“The active members of the Swedish Academy are of course fully aware that the present crisis of confidence places high demands on a long-term and robust work for change. We find it necessary to commit time to recovering public confidence in the Academy before the next laureate can be announced. This, out of respect for previous and future literature laureates, the Nobel Foundation, and the general public…”
