The Week Junior, the children’s magazine publication, is excited to announce their shortlist for The Week Junior Book Awards 2024, in partnership with The Bookseller magazine. This award celebrates the world of children books and the exemplary and talented people who create these books that give joy to lots of children. The main goal is to highlight original ideas and beautiful illustrations but at the same time promoting new and diverse talent.

This year’s shortlist contains 14 categories, ranging from Picture Book of the Year to Best Poetry of the Year. There even is a category where you can choose your favorite book cover of the year! There are so many great books that made the list, so if you are looking for children’s books to either get for the children in your life or want to see what recommended reads perfect for children, then this is the shortlist for you! The winners will be announced on September 30.

About The Week Junior Book Awards

Celebrating the world of children’s books and the talented people who create them, the awards honour the authors, illustrators and publishers who inspire children to read for pleasure. The emphasis is on original ideas, outstanding illustration and smart storytelling as well as new and diverse talent. 

Launched in 2023, The Week Junior Book Awards were created to celebrate children’s books and honour creative excellence within the industry. The shortlisted books will be shared directly with the award-winning news magazine’s eight to 14-year-old readers and their families via a 12-week promotional campaign. Retail partner WHSmith is offering the magazine’s readers a voucher for 20% off all Children’s books (excluding education) bought in-store and online this summer.

The Week Junior

The Week Junior is a multi-award-winning children’s magazine packed with engaging articles, eye-catching images, and big ideas that get eight to 14-year-olds reading, thinking, and talking. Published weekly, it features everything from current affairs to sport, science, books, cooking, and craft – feeding children’s natural curiosity, encouraging critical thinking and boosting their confidence. The magazine’s annual Summer of Reading challenge and The Week Junior Book Awards celebrate children’s books and promote reading for pleasure. The Week Junior Book Festival takes place during October half-term.
