Celebrating Audiobook Month: Favorite Audiobooks

Happy Audiobook Appreciation Month!

June is Audiobook Appreciation Month and it is wonderful to see that audiobooks are increasing in usage. People are beginning to see the wonderul benefits that audiobooks provide to readers and how people can still engage with compelling storytelling by listening. And yes, no one should tell you any different, but listening to audiobooks are still reading.

Over the past few years, I have grown to really appreciate audiobooks and always take the time to recommend them to readers whenever I can. So for Audiobook Month, I thought I would list some of my favorite listens so far. Of course this list will change as I continue to read more and more audiobooks. However, I thought I would take the time highlight a few for readers who are looking for an audiobook to try out and don’t know which one.

Check out my favorites below!

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

Narrated by: Carey Mulligan

The actress Carey Mulligan did an excellent job making Haig’s touching and inspirational story come to life. It marks it as one of the audiobooks that I will read again one day.

The Burning Girls by C.J. Tudor

Narrated by: Gemma Whelan & Richard Armitage

This audiobook introduced me to one of my favorite audiobook narrators, Richard Armitage. But Gemma’s work also added suspense and horror to a story that introduced me to the beautiful work of a great author.

On The Come Up by Angie Thomas

Narrated by: Bahni Turpin

It felt like I was listening to a hip-hop song and a great story! Turpin did an outstanding job making the reader feel like they were listening to a great story and an upbeat podcast!

Kiki Kallira Breaks a Kingdom by Sangu Mandanna

Narrated by: Zenia Starr

Kiki came to life for me (like her drawings) and made this book series one of my favorite children’s series to read.

Madam by Phoebe Wynne

Narrated by: Nathalie Buscombe

The ambience and eerie atmosphere that the story had enhanced with Buscombe’s narration made this a beautiful thing to listen to, whether I was on a long commute or cleaning the house.

True Crime Story by Joseph Knox

Narrated by: Joseph Knox, Sarah Parks, Ciara Baxendale, David John, Chris Thompson, Louis Bernard, Drew Dillon, Shane Zaza, Caitlin Griffiths, Conor McLeod, Dolly Webb, Grace Cooper, Isla Lee, Levi Brown, Noah Marullo & Tara Tijani

This is probably one of my top favorite audiobooks! I love the mixed media and print format, and the audiobook makes readers feel like they are listening to a podcast, even archive news footage. The production value on this was incredible!

Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men by Caroline Criado-Perez

Narrated by: Caroline Criado-Perez

Reading nonfiction books can be daunting, but the way Perez narrates her work makes it compelling and informative. That is the benefit of the writer narrating their work.

The Jigsaw Man by Nadine Matheson

Narrated by: Davine Henry

I love the series, love the narrator. It gave me a true sense of who Inspector Henley is. I hope she continues to narrate the series throughout its entire run!

Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney

Narrated by: Richard Armitage & Stephanie Racine

Armitage appears with another thriller that gives me unique twists and turns while I listen on the train or bus. I was constantly gasping while I listened to this!

The Gifts by Liz Hyder

Narrated by: Tuppence Middleton

It seems like Middleton has the gift of narrating historical fiction because it captured my attention and brought this historical story into the real world.

I was born and raised in New York. I still live in New York but kind of sick of the city and one day I wish to move to the UK.I have a Masters degree in Library Science and I currently work in a special collections library. I loved books ever since I was a little girl. Through the hard times in my life, my love for books has always gotten me through. Just entering another world different from my own intrigues me. As long as I am entering in another universe, I like to create my own as well. I love to write and hopefully I will be able to complete a novel.
