Friday Debate: Comic Books and Their Movies

Friday Deabte

Welcome to Friday Debate, a feature on cup of tea with that book, please, where every Friday a question will be posted that tantalize the brain and expands our horizons. For this week’s question:

According to a recent Los Angeles Times article, although superheroes are thriving on the big and small screens, comic books themselves are lagging behind. The sales of the comic books are decreasing and some blame the television shows and movies for this event.

However, I am not surprised by this. I use to love watching superhero movies and television shows. Now, I am kind of sick of them. There are just too many superhero movies out there. Not only they have huge control over the movie market, they have become incessant and repetitive. And although the kids at my library read the comics more than they read regular books, I am not surprised people don’t go out of their way to purchase comics. Why would they when their favourite superheroes will end up on the big or small screen?

I was born and raised in New York. I still live in New York but kind of sick of the city and one day I wish to move to the UK.I have a Masters degree in Library Science and I currently work in a special collections library. I loved books ever since I was a little girl. Through the hard times in my life, my love for books has always gotten me through. Just entering another world different from my own intrigues me. As long as I am entering in another universe, I like to create my own as well. I love to write and hopefully I will be able to complete a novel.
