Welcome to Friday Debate, a feature on cup of tea with that book, please, where every Friday a question will be posted that tantalize the brain and expands our horizons. For this week’s question:
It has happen to most book lovers. We start off reading a book and somewhere down the line, the story gets boring. The immediate response would be to stop reading. Life is too short to read bad books.
But if you are like me, you’re stubborn and you believe, deep in your heart, that you should continue on and there is a possible chance that the book will get better. But I know everyone is not like me. Others might just choose to give up on the book entirely and save themselves from the boredom.
So this constant conundrum leads me to ask this week’s question.

Painful! I’ve only ever given up 3 or 4 books. I keep pushing until the third or fourth time I feel it’s boring, then read something else. If I go back and it’s still bad, then we’re just not a match. But I try to make it work as best I can. Sometimes it’s the reader who is just in a bad place and it’s not about the book at all.
I agree with you about the reader being in a bad place. I especially feel that way when I read contemporary books. That is why I read a lot more classics so I can truly remember the joys of reading.
I definitely try to give the maximum time to a book for it to pick up because what if the last revelation was something I would have the loved the most but I gave up before that part. Although, at times, there would be a trigger or something that’s just not ignorable and Ill have to put the book down.
