Movies & TV Shows Based on Books Released in 2018

In the past, anxiety was at its peak when a book lover heard that a film/TV adaptation was being made, based off their favorite book. And it is still nerve-racking! But with hits like It, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Murder on the Orient Express, it looks like Hollywood is catching on and making these adaptations pretty good. I can’t guarantee that these adaptations will satisfy your literary vision, however, these are some adaptations I think you should not only be on the lookout but give a chance:

A Wrinkle In Time

Madeleine L’Engle’s popular children novel will be released as a film on March 9, 2018. It has been a long time I’ve read this beloved story but by seeing the trailer, it looks just as magical as I remember.

You can find the trailer here.

The Hate U Give

The Hate U Give

This amazing and innovative young adult novel is getting a film next year and it is well-deserved. Although a release date has not been issued yet, this movie is guaranteed to be hit, especially with the younger audience.

You can find my review of this novel here.

The Haunting of Hill House

The 1999 film version did not give the respect due to this great book, so hopefully this 10-episode Netflix series will do it some justice. It will be a modern re-imagining of the classic ghost story and apparently dive more in the terrifying Crane family, so it will be interesting  where they will take it.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

Lily James (Downton Abbey, Cinderella) stars in this book adaptation as a journalist on the German occupied island of Guernsey, where she finds a book club trying to stay alive during high peaks of the war.

Where’d You Go, Bernadette

Bernadette Fox vanishes before a family vacation and of course, hilarity ensues. This film adaptation will be released around Mother’s Day.

Good Omens

This well-loved theological comedy by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman will be produced by BBC Studios and Amazon. Martin Sheen will star as the angel and David Tennant will star as the demon.

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda

Titled Love, Simon, this book and film tells the story of Simon Spier, a 17-year-old closeted gay high school student who deals with a blackmailer that threatens to reveal his true sexuality to the whole school.

I was born and raised in New York. I still live in New York but kind of sick of the city and one day I wish to move to the UK.I have a Masters degree in Library Science and I currently work in a special collections library. I loved books ever since I was a little girl. Through the hard times in my life, my love for books has always gotten me through. Just entering another world different from my own intrigues me. As long as I am entering in another universe, I like to create my own as well. I love to write and hopefully I will be able to complete a novel.

  1. I’m definitely excited for A Wrinkle in Time and The Haunting of Hill House. I think a miniseries format will really let them delve into that one!

  2. I especially can’t wait for The Haunting of Hill House miniseries, but I’m a little worried about the The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society adaptation. The cast seems strong though, so hopefully it will do the book justice!
