Top Ten Tuesdays: Ten Books for Halloween

Top Ten Tuesdays

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish. Today’s post is:

Halloween themed freebie — your choice (ie. 10 best ghost stories, 10 things that scare you in books, 10 literary Halloween costumes, 10 vampire novels, 10 books that WILL scare you, 10 non-scary books for Halloween, 10 scariest covers, etc.)”

I never been a big fan of anything scary. I mean, I couldn’t sleep for a week after seeing The Ring. But I still try to get into the Halloween spirit by watching some scary movies…and also some scary books. Here are my top recommendations:

1. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving

No Halloween is complete without this classic. I also recommend the TV show as well

Frankenstein

2. Frakenstein by Mary Shelley

The Complete Tales and Poems

3. Anything by Edgar Allan Poe

Take your pick: The Tell-Tale Heart, The Raven…all of his stories and poems are perfect for Halloween

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

4. The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson

The Lottery

5. The Lottery by Shirley Jackson

It made not be at first glance but this story is perfect for Halloween. The ending creeps you out.

6. The Diviners by Libba Bray

I’m currently reading this right now but the creepy and haunting factor proves that this was the prefect time to read it.

7. Goosebumps Series by R.L. Stine

Enough Said.

17061

8. Coraline by Neil Gaiman

8667848

9. A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

2148093010. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

It made not be a Halloween themed novel but the relationship the two main characters have is just as scary and creepy.

I was born and raised in New York. I still live in New York but kind of sick of the city and one day I wish to move to the UK.I have a Masters degree in Library Science and I currently work in a special collections library. I loved books ever since I was a little girl. Through the hard times in my life, my love for books has always gotten me through. Just entering another world different from my own intrigues me. As long as I am entering in another universe, I like to create my own as well. I love to write and hopefully I will be able to complete a novel.

  1. Yay! I finally saw a book on my list! It’s Gone Girl. 😀

I can relate also to your thoughts because I am no fan of scary books too, and most especially movies! I have never ever watched the Ring yet. 😀

You may want to read my list, though I am not sure they are really so scary! 🙂 http://wp.me/p4ZhSl-jv

  2. I remember that Goosebumps book! ‘The Haunted Mask’ terrified me when I was little – and ‘It came from beneath the sink’ haha. Great list 🙂

  3. Such a great list! Either the books are on my TBR list or I’ve already read them 🙂 I’m particularly interested in Coraline, and I can’t believe I still haven’t read it. Happy Halloween!

  4. Great list, all the classics, plus Goosebumps, which is classic in its own right! I had Ring in my top ten scariest book and totally agree, the movie scared the hell out of me. Like, sleeping with the light on for a few nights scared.

Here’s my list, I went for top ten scariest books, and I’m a total wuss, so it wasn’t hard! Love your blog by the way, the name alone made me smile!
