Top Ten Tuesday: Hyped Books I Never Read

imageTop Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish. Today’s post is:

Top Ten Hyped Books I’ve Never Read”

I continuously get disappointed when I read a hyped book so I think that is why I am so reluctant to read them. Anyway, here is my top ten:

1. Game of Thrones Series George R. R. Martin – Even though I hear about the book series and the TV series all the time, I feel like I’m the only person who has never read it. However, like I mentioned this in another TTT post, since it’s not my cup of tea, I’ll never read it.

2. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard – I see a lot of people reviewing and talking about it on the blogosphere and it does seem like an interesting read so maybe one day I’ll give it a go.

3. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green – Again, feel like I’m the only person in the world who hasn’t read. And it does appear to be something that I would like. Maybe because it is a young adult book and I’m so hesitant to read it.

4. All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr – I don’t read a lot of books that win literary prizes but this does sound interesting so maybe this will be my first one.

We Were Liars

5. We Were Liars by E. Lockhart – This sounds a lot like Pretty Little Liars to me but I always love a good mystery.

6. The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenger – And I have the copy too! I The Time Traveler's Wifejust never get the chance to pick it up and actually read it.

The Kite Runner7. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

8. Luckiest Girl Alive Luckiest Girl Aliveby Jessica Knoll – I purchased this book a few months back so it’s definitely on my list.

The Book Thief9. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

10. Eleanor & Park Eleanor & Parkby Rainbow Rowell – Borrowed it from the library one time and never got the chance to read it.

I never have much luck when I read a “hyped book” but maybe these pickings will change mind on that.

What hyped books haven’t you read yet?

I was born and raised in New York. I still live in New York but kind of sick of the city and one day I wish to move to the UK.I have a Masters degree in Library Science and I currently work in a special collections library. I loved books ever since I was a little girl. Through the hard times in my life, my love for books has always gotten me through. Just entering another world different from my own intrigues me. As long as I am entering in another universe, I like to create my own as well. I love to write and hopefully I will be able to complete a novel.

  1. We Were Liars isn’t too similar to Pretty Little Liars in my opinion, but it is a great mystery/psychological thriller. I’d definitely recommend picking it up soon, especially because it’s such a quick read! The Fault in Our Stars is super-hyped, but I do think it’s worth the read. The characters in it are very mature so it doesn’t read like your typical YA romance book. Nice post 🙂

  2. I still haven’t read Red Queen either! I deferred it over months due to the hype (but mainly due to slumps) so I’m hoping to finally get around to reading it soon. Same goes with All The Light We Cannot See. Totally instabought myself a copy but it’s been sitting on the shelf ever since. Ack–I hope you get a chance to read some of these to finally say you’ve checked them out!

    Cheers,
    Joey via. thoughts and afterthoughts.

  3. The only one of those which I’ve read is The Time Traveler’s Wife. It was good enough, but not as good as the hype had led me to believe.

You’re not the only one who hasn’t read The Fault in our Stars. I haven’t either and have seen it on at least one other list today. It tempted me, but I decided it would be too sad, so have pretty much decided to skip it.

The one I’m now wondering whether or not to read is The Book Thief.

  4. I’ll probably never read Game of Thrones either. Although I’m a fan of fantasy, the many controversial issues is off putting. I do think you should read The Book Thief, I think it’s great and when do you ever get to read a book where Death is the narrator?

  5. I’ve read a bunch of these and thought they were all good, including Game of Thrones, The Book Thief, and All the Light We Cannot See!
I haven’t read Eleanor and Park yet either though.

    1. The Book Thief and All the Light We Cannot See is definitely on my TBR list but I don’t think I’ll ever read Game of Thrones.

      1. It’s such a long series, I feel like a lot of people feel that way. But The Book Thief and All the Light We Cannot See were really good! I hope you like them!

  6. The Kite Runner I personally didn’t like because of the main character, but I know a lot of people, even my non-reader friends who liked it so I guess I’m in the minority.

I have the Red Queen and All The Light We Cannot See so I’m super excited to read those. 🙂

    Happy Reading.

  7. Just wanted to second what a couple of other people have said, The Book Thief really is worth reading. Game of Thrones, not so much. You’re not missing much if you never read it, I read three of them in the series before quitting and I wish I hadn’t bothered sticking with it so long. The Kite Runner is also good, though as Erika mentioned in her comment, the main character is not at all likeable. Though I’d stay away from Hosseini’s other book “And the Mountains Echoed.” If you think the main character in The Kite Runner is self indulgent, one of the main characters in this one is even more so.

  8. I’m probably never going to read the GoT books. I’ve tried a couple times, but then my dog ate the first book and I figured that must be a sign that it wasn’t meant to be. 🙂

  9. I wouldn’t bother with GoT if I were you. It’s a HUGE undertaking and they’re not actually that great. But if you haven’t watched the TV series then you are missing out! The Fault in our Stars you need to read though – I thought I was over YA fiction until I set in on John Green. You’ll have it finished in a matter of days and be desperate to read his others!

    1. The GOT series is not my type of fantasy so I don’t think I’ll watch the show either. I want to read The Fault in Our Stars but I maybe I’ve been a little hesitant because I won’t live up to the hype.

      1. I don’t like any fantasy at all and I still love it! The Fault in our Stars might not live up to the hype (because really what could?) but it would be a shame to miss out on it because of that

  10. The only books on your list that I’ve read are Red Queen, The Book Thief, and Eleanor & Park. But they were pretty good, so they make up for it! 😉

  11. Do read The Time Traveler’s Wife, it’s pretty interesting… I haven’t read Game of Thrones either. I watched the show so it seems to me like a waste of time to read them especially that I have too many books on my to-read list.
