Independent Bookstore Day is coming

Formerly well-known as California Bookstore Day, CBD is now expanding nationally, changing its name to Independent Bookstore Day. On May 2, 2015 indie bookstores across the country will be holding events to celebrate. Independent bookstores are so important, especially in this economic climate. But that is not the only important thing. As it says on the CBD website,

Independent bookstores are not just stores, they’re community centers and local anchors run by passionate readers. They are entire universes of ideas that contain the possibility of real serendipity. They are lively performance spaces and quiet places where aimless perusal is a day well spent.

Indie bookstores, whether dusty and labyrinthine or clean and well-lighted, are not just stores, they are solutions. They hold the key to your love life, your career, and your passions. Walking the aisles of a good bookstore means stumbling upon a novel from India that expands your heart. It’s encountering an art book that changes the direction of your life. It’s the joy of having a perfect stranger steer you toward the perfect book.”

Independent Bookstore Day is only a month away so set aside May 2 and go out there and support your indie bookstores!

(If you are in the vicinity of New York, indie bookstores of NYC have already set up a website , with future events planned for that day.

I was born and raised in New York. I still live in New York but kind of sick of the city and one day I wish to move to the UK.I have a Masters degree in Library Science and I currently work in a special collections library. I loved books ever since I was a little girl. Through the hard times in my life, my love for books has always gotten me through. Just entering another world different from my own intrigues me. As long as I am entering in another universe, I like to create my own as well. I love to write and hopefully I will be able to complete a novel.
